Derma Laser Centers’ Lip Augmentation procedure is made possible with a cosmetic filling agent called Restylane®. When injected into lips that have reduced, it provides a dramatic improvement in their appearance. While the Lip Augmentation procedure is an injection, it is still non-surgical in nature, and provides instant results.

Restylane® is a non-bovine substitute for collagen, which has been known to cause allergic reaction in some patients. Restylane® contains no animal by-products, and is instead composed of hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule already present in the body. Restylane® can also be used to improve facial lines and wrinkles in similar procedures

Recovery time from Lip Augmentation is very short, with results being evident almost immediately. Redness or swelling may occur around the treated area, but it usually resides within a few hours.

Restylane was FDA approved in January of 2004. Restylane is made up of hyaluronic acid, a clear gel that is naturally present in the skin and other body tissues. Because it is naturally present in the body, no allergy testing is required. Restylane generally lasts between 4-6 months. The material has a very soft consistency and the results of augmentation are similar to those achievable with collagen. Other than lip augmentation, Restylane is used to treat nasolabial creases, marionette lines and droopy corners of the mouth, and the deep vertical lines seen in aging lips.

Radiesse has recently been FDA approved for nasolabial fold augmentation. It is a safe, long lasting next generation Cosmetic dermal filler that is setting new standards for the correction of facial lines and nasolabial folds. Radiesse is made up of natural elements (calcium and phosphate) and is injected as a filler into nasolabial folds. It appears to have greater longevity than collagen, but causes more post operative discomfort. There are no incisions and swelling is generally minimal and transient.

Polylactic acid (Sculptura) is an injectable bio-absorbable material that has been approved in Europe for a number of years and is the only agent currently FDA approved for HIV-associated facial lipoatrophy. The substance stimulates dermal fibroblasts to produce collagen, leading to thicker but natural feeling skin. In many ways, its action is similar to that of injectable collagen, except that it has a more durable effect. The injected area requires frequent massage in the days following injection to avoid nodule formation. Results in the temporal area are generally less satisfactory than those in the cheek area. Polylactic acid gradually reabsorbs over a 2- to 3-year period and therefore can be expected to be active over most of this time. ‘Top-ups’ may be needed at regular intervals to maintain optimum benefits.

In addition, Juvéderm^™ injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.

BOTOX® Cosmetic reduces the frown lines around the brow area for upto four months. Those frown lines you may have asked yourself if they were brought upon by stress? The sun? Actually the skins aging process is far more complex than that. A list of factors can play a role in the “frowning” process. It isn’t just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, damage caused by free radicals, and so on; it’s a combination of many factors. Glabellar Lines also known as frown lines are the cause of the muscle movements beneath the skin. When any person frowns for a short time interval, the facial muscles contract, causing pleating of the skin. After years of this frowning process, the skin begins to linger and can become more pronounced. In women, these lines may appear exaggerated and more permanent, due to the fact that womens skin is more delicate and more anumated than mens. Fortunaletly since the approval from the FDA in 2002, BOTOX® Cosmetic, can be used to smooth severe to moderate frown lines between the brows. These results can be seen within a couple of days following the injection and may last upto four months.

The Process

One of the most beneficial aspects of the BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is that it is a NON-INVASIVE process. That means that their is NO SURGERY required, and can be done with in 10 minutes with no recovery time needed. The process beging with the doctor examining your ability to move certain and critical facial muscles. Once the injection sites are determined, the doctor will administer several tiny injections into the muscles, with most patients relating the injections to a small pin prick. BOTOX® Cosmetic will work to reduce the contraction of your muscles that result in the frown lines.

Patients Responsibilites and Side Effects

As with any other cosmetic treatment, only your doctor can decide whether a treatment, including BOTOX® Cosmetic, is right for you.

Patients are advised not to use the BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment if they:

* are pregnant, or planning on becoming pregnant;
* have an infection where the treatment will be used;
* are allergic to any of the ingredients that are used in the BOTOX Cosmetic.
* Patients should advise the doctor if they:
* have any diseases that affect theirr nerves and muscles;
* are breastfeeding;
* are planning on becoming pregnant soon.
